While at Moogfest we got the chance to check out Antenes’ installation featuring her homegrown bounty of synths made from antique telecommunications equipment. Her unique approach to music making came to her in college a she sought out a way to combine her passions for DJing and other forms electronic arts into a singular idea she could pursue, which on whim brought her to a telecommunications museum in Escanaba, Michigan where her idea was primed to appropriated these old communications machines for the purpose of art.
These synths art a treat to hear. The distinct sound that they make is really something to behold; almost as if you are inside of these machines as they converse amongst themselves through chirps, giggles and gargles.
Not only do they sound amazing but they look the part too. they are also living breathing musical sculpture that teach us about the past and future.
